Sandalwood tree is a parasitic and evergreen tree. It has small purple pink flowers, leathery leaves, several smooth slender branches and the gray brown trunk and may develop up to 30 feet or nine meters. The roots of this Sandalwood tree burrow into various other trees. It is accepted that the best sandalwood oil is produced in the Mysore region in India. The sandal tree develops up to the height of 17 meter or 15 feet with abundant foliage and slender trunk. Bright green leaves of the sandalwood tree are pointed and shiny. The pale purple flowers of sandalwood tree develop red and small fruits.

Chemical composition:

The main chemical in the sandalwood components are santalene, santyl acetate and santalol. Most persons produce sandalwood oil which includes ninety percent of santal or santalol.

Sandalwood essential oils mix well with one another, specifically its oil mixes well with ylang-ylang, vetivert, rose, myrrh, lavender, geranium, black pepper and bergamot.

Sandalwood oil is sedative, expectorant, emollient, diuretic, carminative, astringent, antispasmodic, antiseptic and antiphlogistic. It has various medicinal properties.
